Jas Olivette is an illustrator and stationery designer based in Hong Kong. Her work focuses on quiet, nature-inspired visual storytelling, expressed through soft color palettes, organic textures, and gentle detail. With a background in calligraphy, graphic design, and picture book illustration, she creates artwork that evokes calm, curiosity, and a sense of small wonder. Jas also provides calligraphy and hand-lettering services for brands, events, and custom projects.
My art medium
My go-to mediums are Watercolour and gouache, but I also love mixed-media: oil, dry pastels, pan pastels, coloured pencils. For print files, I often use procreate to edit the final artwork.
What inspired me
1. Nature
I find inspiration in small, quiet moments in nature — light, stillness, and slow noticing. They influence the pace and feeling of my work.
2. Impressionist and Symbolist painters
My visual language is shaped by Impressionist and Symbolist painters such as Monet, Bonnard, Maurice Denis, and Odilon Redon, whose use of color and atmosphere guided me toward painting what is felt rather than simply seen.
3. Minimal designs
I’m also drawn to minimal design, especially the thoughtful use of white space in Japanese graphic design and the calm simplicity of Nordic aesthetics. I value composition that breathes, space that rests, and imagery that invites reflection.

4. travel
Travel continues to deepen these influences. In France, I notice hand-painted signage, weathered lettering, and the soft colors of old doors. In Kyoto Japan, I am inspired by gardens, quiet pathways, and the subtle balance found in Zen spaces. In Okinawa, I am inspired by the diving experience, the sea turtles, the little fishes...Each journey adds another layer of gentle detail and atmosphere to my work.
